There just aren't that many Ducatis in Australia. Apparently they've got fairly good anti theft devices and are not that easy to steal. Oh hang on a minute ... May be that was Liverpool and not Australia. Same thing really. Standby for incoming!

Kickstand bolts coming loose, coolant in the oil, fuel injection issues, paint defects...

Wow, you hit that one right on the head - Ducati culture in a paragraph I will admit to having a bit of the nerd in me and it does sound a little like a Ferrari, but I hope I'm not the show off type. I just love riding the thing... makes me tingle... and yes, in THAT way

As for your Aussie blokes, they could definitely benefit from a bit of your witty repartee on that forum!

Well, finally got some news from the insurance company. I'll be getting the bike back on salvage title and coming out pretty much even, after deductible and whatnot. Was hoping to end up with a bit if $$ in hand, but I can live with even. After Duece gets home, I'll start stripping off damaged stuff and see what's left. As long as the frame isn't bent, I will rebuild him!

And just like that, there it is. Done and done. I love this forum!

On a more serious note, anyone have any experience with salvage title nonsense, particularly in MA? I know it has to be inspected before it can be registered, but the rules make it sound like I have to present the estimate and show receipts for all the parts listed as damaged. Some parts I won't be replacing with like, and some not at all, particularly the ($5000) frame. Just wondering if anyone has dealt with that inspection and can clue me in on how tough they are about it. Thanks!

The dude that bought my first Storm had it back on the road inside 2 weeks. At least in NY, I think it's just an inspection. I don't even think we need to provide receipts.

Check one of your local body shops. Surely one of them has done something along these lines with a car...same rules should apply from a DMV standpoint.

You can also check with one of the local bike shops that does "caf?? bikes" and major customizations. Oftentimes they're using salvaged donors for the project.

Well, Deuce is back home... safe, but not quite sound:

It looks pretty ugly, but I think he'll live. I need to study some more, but the frame appears straight. Foot controls, handlebars/controls, tank, and dresser bars took the worst of it. The only surprise bad news so far is that the left side chrome cover thing is cracked. It's a small crack though, so I am considering welding it and powder coating it flat black - might do a dark, Stormy look on the rebuild. Too early to make a final prognosis, but the docs are cautiously optimistic

Clutch cover, I believe it would be called. The big oblong cast piece, chrome on non-Storms, that covers the whole left side of the bottom half of the engine.

They did, actually. Although they didn't save the left side engine cover (clutch cover). And they will cost more to replace than the headers would have, I think. They'd help more in a parking lot drop though - it's a bit much to ask them to protect during a 45mph highside.

Rachael, what paint scene are you thinking about putting on Deuce? I really like the black and gray Triumph did on the Thunderbird Commander and with some mods on the fenders would look killer on a 1600. Was thinking about that for my girl but you can have the idea if you want

Well, honestly I'm torn on the paint scheme. So far, I've had two thoughts:

1. A black/red scheme, that while not matching the Duc, would compliment it. i think it would make a cool garage and my lid would match both bikes.

2. British Racing Green with an off-center yellow racing stripe. I've always been partial to that color scheme and I think it would look really classy on a British bike.

However, two different friends, with no communication between them, have both suggested burnt orange. I think they're just inspired by the New England autumn, but that they both thought of it independently makes me think a little. I like the black/grey scheme too. Definitely some photoshop work ahead, so keep the ideas coming :-)

Green with the yellow stripe, because it's what YOU want! If it sucks, you can always paint over it...

Hey, thanks for the bump, even if it was just to clear spam. So I found a parts place in upstate NY that was parting out a low mileage 2011 Storm that had never been down. Weird story, but pictures seemed to back it up. Got a lot of the pieces I wanted for my project at a good price. Now I just have to finish this other work so I can start in on the Bird for real!

It is called Tolpa's Auto Recycling, but I don't recall where. They were parting the bike on eBay. If I recall right, I checked the location and I don't think it was close to you or was your old bike. I did think of you when I saw it though
